Featuring a banded morwong, snapper and blackback salmon, three fishy friends who can be found in the waters around Binalong Bay and Tasmania’s east coast.
Each fish was hand painted using solar dyes that develop only when exposed to UV light. This means I’m working somewhat blind, with their colours and exact shapes only properly revealed once the fabric has been exposed to the sun and rinsed.
The background was dyed using seaweeds foraged from the rock pools of Binalong Bay, another connection to the place these fish call home.
The unpredictable nature of both processes means this piece cannot be recreated. This is a one-of-one original textile artwork.
